Impacts of Swine Waste Management in North Carolina: A Geospatial Analysis

The maps presented in this report accompany the 2020 report titled “A Stakeholder Analysis Framework for Measuring the Impacts of Swine Waste Management in North Carolina” for the NC Policy Collaboratory and are intended to provide a geographically-illustrated context for swine concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in North Carolina. The maps display locations and concentrations of CAFOs; demographic data on communities where CAFOs are located; housing and farm parcel areas and assessed values in those communities; and the location and extent of wetlands, floodplains, and watersheds in the areas where CAFOs exist. The maps illustrate the landscape of CAFO use in North Carolina, indicating patterns that suggest further research opportunities.
