What do Plants and Robots Have in Common?

Lots of amazing updates from SmartUp-Elizabeth City client, Wetland Plants! Last spring we introduced this native wetland plant nursery. Since the initial projects, a financial analysis and market research compilation, NCGrowth and Smartup built a robotic process prototype that can improve business productivity by about 20%.

The robotic seeder is a complex and precision engineering device employing peristaltic pumps, stepper motors, drivers, microcontrollers and linear actuators. It will be deployed on site within the next few months.
We also designed and built an IoT system with cloud based storage and auto-email alerting that will streamline the environment monitoring operations in multiple greenhouses.

Lastly, we demonstrated how interesting insights could be generated from statistical analysis of data (multivariable polynomial regression) and applied to solve real world problems.

Nabeel Mehdi is an NCGrowth-SmartUp Analyst and an engineering student at NC State. He designed and completed the aforementioned three projects.
